Back in Cairns, Feeling the Heat (Again)
As my time in Port Macquarie draws to a close, I look ahead to the next part of the journey, and retrace my footsteps up the coast to Cairns.
Thankfully, the day I arrived back into Cairns, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. I also noticed that the sun was still shining at 6pm, whereas it was already setting back in Port Macquarie from 5pm, so I have an extra hour of daylight to enjoy each and every day. I was missing Port a little, and the owners of the hostel, as well as some friends made there.
Everything was recognisable in Cairns, and as the bus took me to my accommodation, all the roads were familiar, like I have never been away. I stopped at Tropic Days and set my things down in a lovely dorm room. This is certainly a very nice hostel indeed.
A call from my friends here in Cairns cemented a change in hostels and began a weeks accommodation in Castaways, the hostel I stayed in before, with my friends who were working the reception there. It was going to be a fun week I could tell. I actually had the same room, but opted for a different bed, just for a change. It was nice to be back, and didn’t take long to settle in.
Searching for work began right away, and proved fruitless, although the sun was beating down, and has been every day since. The busy season starts in 2 – 3 weeks, I was told, and my money will not last that long. I will have to rely on finding work somewhere, or my trip to Australia will have to come to an abrupt end, something I was not happy to be thinking about, but have to think about nonetheless. Where others have been lucky to find work, others have not, and I am one of those currently after days of looking. It seems imminent that this trip will end, and I am extremely sad about this, but I have to keep trying in what little time I have left. Fingers crossed!
