Sightseeing Elvas in Portugal – Day 18

Thursday 30th July 2009 – Portugal
Only a short drive today to the Portuguese border to a campsite in Elvas. It was cheaper here, but i was one of only two tents in the entire campsite. It was like a ghost town, but it was under cover and seemed nice enough.

Santiago do Cacem and Evora – Day 17

Wednesday 29th July 2009 – Portugal
I woke up early this morning and wanted to get to the Info place first thing. I was hoping today would be the day when i could begin to enjoy myself a little again. First, though, i made my way to the tourist information office where the girl was waiting to help me, i hoped.

Alcacer do Sal, a Beautiful Little Town – Day 16

Tuesday 28th July 2009 – Portugal
Had a terrible night. The campsite is next to a motorway, and they decided to start digging it up and working on it at 12:00 midnight. The work went on until 5:00am, so didn’t get much sleep at all. I wondered whether that was a bad omen for the day ahead, i hoped not.

Sightseeing Sintra in an Epic Day – Day 15

Monday 27th July 2009 – Portugal
Well today was a very good day and a very bad day for two different reasons. First, though, the good. I drove the car to Sintra today. This was a place recommended to me. After reading up about it i decided i really wanted to go. And i was very glad i did.

Lisbon and a Mighty Tour by Foot – Day 14

Sunday 26th July 2009 – Portugal
I had a great little chat with the lady behind the campsite reception as i left this morning. She spoke good English and said how she wanted to move to England, as she was bored with Portugal. Funny, as I’m bored of England and would happily move to somewhere like Portugal. I guess everybody has dreams of living somewhere other than where they are, unless you live in the Caribbean of course.

Penela, Tomar and Alcobaca – Day 13

Saturday 25th July 2009 – Portugal
It was extremely foggy this morning, and as i stepped out of my tent, i had a job to see where i was, very surreal. The fog also brought a change of temperature with it, as it was a lot cooler. Unfortunately for me, it meant a wet tent this morning. It didn’t take long to clear though. Then i was off for what would turn out to be, a great day.

Coimbra, a University Town – Day 12

Friday 24th July 2009 – Portugal
I didn’t get much sleep last night due to the large group of French kids making a lot of noise until the early hours. They were laughing and screaming without any thought for anyone else in the campsite, but I guess you’re only young once eh! I was glad to be leaving in the end. So where was I headed for today?..

Porto and the Strange Exhibition – Day 11

Thursday 23rd July 2009 – Portugal
Well, what a night, what can i say. And i don’t mean that in a good way. The rain lashed down all night, and although we were quite sheltered here, it still attacked the tent from all angles. The driving rain swept in through the valley, and as i looked out through my window, i could see the trees across the valley swaying violently from side to side. I was quite glad to be in my tent. At least it was warm and dry.

Guimaraes, the Damp Region of Portugal – Day 10

Wednesday 22nd July 2009 – Portugal
I set off today on another drive high up into the mountains. On the motorways they have climbing lanes for the lorries as the roads climb very steeply, but as it happens I’m using these lanes as well. My poor little car doesn’t have a lot of power. It doesn’t matter though because i can just sit back and take in the sights, and there were some stunning views along the way today.

Entering Portugal, Arriving at Braganca – Day 9

Tuesday 21st July 2009 – Portugal
I awoke this morning to the strange sound of what i thought was chickens, or birds of some sort, flapping their wings and squeaking a lot. As i looked out the window of my tent i could see Red Squirrels running about, chasing each other and having little fights, it was very sweet. They were very strange sounds though, and didn’t sound like the type of sounds a squirrel should make. It was fascinating.
