Day 2 Cleaning the Hostel
Sunday 24th April 2011 – Port Macquarie, Australia
Day 2 as a cleaner in Port Macquarie and it isn’t going very well unfortunately. I was kept up all night by the group of English guys currently in my room, who were very drunk the previous night. They had been in and out of the room all night long, laughing and banging about, resulting in just 2 hours sleep for me. I was a little grumpy this morning.
One guy had been sick in the toilets whilst another had wet the bed during the night, so I had a lot of cleaning to do today. The group of lads were not out of the room when they were suppose to be, resulting in an angry manager asking them to leave. This carried on for a while, and I wasn’t able to clean the room until they had left. When I was able to get into the room to hoover, the guys didn’t move for me and disregarded the fact I was even there. This angered the manager more so.
The bathrooms needed a good clean this morning, which involved the use of bleach in all the cubicles and showers. It made me feel very sick after a while, inhaling all the fumes. I was happy once we had finished. The manager explained this is just a once a month thing, so I guess I wont have to do it again.
With so many guests leaving today there was much to be done, and it took a long while. It was made harder by the English group that hadn’t left yet, and it was evident that they had taken much of the food I had bought from the fridge and helped themselves to it. I had packed all the breakfast bits away and these guys were the only guests still in the hostel, so I knew they were responsible for stealing my food. It’s disappointing to meet people like this, people with little respect for others.
After a busy morning I took myself into the town for a walk along the beaches and to the Koala reserve, but was unsuccessful in sighting the animals today. I enjoyed the walk though. The weather was a lot cooler today and wasn’t warm enough to be sunbathing, so I just wandered about the shops. In the evening I took my camera to the waterfront for a decent sunset image. The past two nights have been incredible in the way of sunsets, with bright reds and oranges filling the sky, so I wanted to try my luck tonight.
When I returned to the hostel in the evening, I was surprised to see the English group still there, but I hung out with some other guests and had a few games of pool until bed time.
