La Rochelle, the Calm Before the Storm – Day 4
Thursday 16th July 2009 – France
Got showered, had a bite to eat then packed up the tent. I realized it was going to be a pain in the arse to keep rolling up the tent, sleeping bag and mat each and every morning, so i just chucked it all on the back seat of the car and set out.
I had a bit of a nightmare today finding somewhere to stay, as most of the places were either not there any more, or fully booked. With traffic and non-existent road signs, and my poor attempt at reading the sat nav, i ended up driving for about 6-7 hours.
In the end i just picked a campsite on the sat nav, and it took me to a place just outside La Rochelle. The campsite was very big and busy, but quite cheap, and good facilities. I pitched the tent and walked off to the nearby beach which was very nice. I sat for a while and walked along the beach past the restaurants and ice cream places, then back to the campsite for something to eat.
We had a bit of rain this eve, so i sat in the car. It wasn’t much, but just enough to wash the bird poo off the tent. (I was camping under a tree). The weather brought with it a beautiful sunset, with red and purple clouds filling the sky. As the evening went on the clouds became more angry looking, and i imagined a bad night ahead.
The rain began again and i decided now was a good time to get some sleep.
