Port Macquarie, Take Two

27 April 2011 No Comment

Well, as has been the way so far this trip, nothing has gone quite according to plan, and this past week has been no different. I was to stay in Newcastle for a while, but now I have moved on again. But where to this time..?

It turns out I really love Newcastle, and would love to revisit at some stage this trip, or in the future, but I just couldn’t find work there, and there was no work to be had in the hostel either, so I needed a new plan. I phoned a hostel I have already stayed at in a place called Port Macquarie, and to my luck they had a position available for a cleaner, so in I stepped.

It’s not a paid position, nor is it a long term position, but it’s a way of slowing down the spending, allowing me to look for work without so much pressure. And the hostel itself is one of the best I have stayed in, so I need to make sure I maintain the same standards with my cleaning.

So far it has been fine. Busy, but fine. It has been nice to visit the beaches in the afternoons and have a play around in the water. I do love the sea, and I love splashing about like a kid. This is a good place for me to stay for a while. There has been much going on near the sea for the Easter break, and for Anzac Day, lots to keep me busy with, and next week there is an Iron Man competition taking place along the water’s edge. Needless to say, I’m not taking part.

So my plans involve looking as hard as I can for work, and to enjoy taking it easy without the hassle of lugging my backpack around with me all the time. I guess I could make my way North up the coast again, hopefully doing the things I missed first time around, and finally arriving back in Cairns where I can meet up with friends again, and continue travelling around this huge country. All I need is work, simples!
