Remembering My Favourite Family Holiday

1 March 2012 No Comment

It was many years ago now, my favourite family holiday. I must have been half the age I am now, yet the memories are still vivid, and the sounds still resonate around my head. I loved everything about this magical place, and I always will.

I am, of course, talking about the home of the Magic Kingdom, the place where everybody smiles and walks with a spring in their step. Where all the shops are themed to your favourite cartoon characters, and where the cartoon characters come to life. This wonder land is Orlando in Florida, the place where dreams really do come true.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to go to such a place with my family, and to stay for a few weeks, soaking up the sun and the atmosphere. Disney represents one part of Florida, as there is a lot to do besides, but it is a huge part, it has to be said.

The beaches are tropical, as you would expect, and you could easily spend an entire day relaxing by the sea, but you can’t afford to waste too much time here, otherwise you would never fit everything in! The same applies to lazing by the pool in your Hotel or Villa; it’s great to do, but your time here is limited, and you don’t want to be going back home having missed out on some of the main activities.

We were quite organised – it’s a family trait – and were able to manipulate the time we had to see all we wanted to see, as well as make time for rest and recuperation. We all loved the Disney parks, and managed to find the child within us. It’s amazing how such a place can really put a smile on your face, and you can’t help but laugh and scream and run everywhere. My parents were doing the same. We even found our favourite ride in one of the parks, and went on it again and again near the end of the day when the place was emptying of people. We even climbed over the barriers to get on a ride one last time, much to the amusement of somebody working there, but it was well worth it.

Our most enjoyable park was Magic Kingdom. Everything about the place is simply magical. You are swept along in a bubble all day long, with wonderful sounds coming from each direction. The procession that takes place throughout the day is a joy to watch, as are the fireworks in the evening, and with some of the best rides in Orlando here in this park, it’s not hard to see why this was our top pick.

I can’t describe the feeling I had from being in Orlando, with the Disney parks and the lovely beaches, and the meals out at the great restaurants scattered along the 192. And to be there with the whole family was a holiday that will never be matched again in terms of enjoyment. I will always have a place in my heart for Orlando.

Flights to Orlando needn’t be expensive, as great deals can be found with a little searching, and when you know Orlando is at the other end of that flight, the time soon passes. I remember not being able to sit still for a second, for all the excitement built around the holiday. The flight back is quite the opposite, but we need not think about that.

I hope one day to revisit Orlando, and I feel I may be too old to enjoy it like I once did, but you are never too old to get taken in by the magic.
