Returning to Sunny Newcastle
So, after a week in Melbourne, how much has really changed, and am I any nearer to finding a job, or a place to spend the next few months?
The truth is, Melbourne is a great city, but It is not anywhere near the type of place I was hoping it would be. For a start, the weather is very cold, very cold indeed. I arrived into a rain storm, and have had rain almost every day since. Temperatures are far removed from that I was experiencing a few days ago, and because of this, I have acquired a rather nasty man flu. None of this was pencilled into my plans.
Nonetheless, there is much to see in Melbourne, and most of it was seen over a few days, as the weather had taken an unexpected turn for the better, with the sun making a brief appearance at times. It was in all respect, the perfect weather. But I miss the beaches and I miss the heat of the sun on my face every day. I miss wearing shorts, t-shirts and flip flops (thongs). I don’t know if Melbourne is really the place for me, and I think I may have to rethink my plans a little, maybe head back to the East Coast where I have been before, and I know I like.
With this in mind, I have made the decision to travel back to Newcastle, to the BeachHouse YHA, where hopefully I can stay for a while and work in the city. Australia (Lonely Planet Country Guides) named Newcastle as being in their top 10 cities, so that can’t be bad. Upon arrival into Newcastle, the sun was shining and It was a beautiful day, most of it spent on the beach watching the surfers. This will be the ideal place for me to improve my own surfing.
The job hunt in Newcastle starts tomorrow with an assault on all the local businesses and employment agencies. Surely there is work out there for me…
